Education Trip – Friends at Hunterston Castle
Learning Through Discovery at Hunterston
Hunterston Castle is one of the oldest medieval castles still intact and still family owned. Clan Hunter is proud of its heritage spanning over 900 years, on the North-Ayrshire coast overlooking the picturesque Firth of Clyde.
In keeping with the Scottish National Curriculum, in particular Social Studies and people of medieval Scotland, we feel that visiting Hunterston Castle will provide pupils of all ages with a tangible learning environment.
Hunterston is the perfect place to discover their national heritage. Under strict supervision, it is a safe place to explore the nooks and crannies of the Pele Tower and see how it was constructed, how people lived and why, eventually, such towers were no longer used. Live education experiences such as trying on an authentic war helmet and attempting to lift the swords with which they fought off the enemy.
