The Jacob Hunter Trust newsletter 2023

Richard H. Hunter, president of the Jacob Hunter Trust, has written to us with the latest news and developments on the upkeep of and research on Hunter family cemeteries and graves. Many of you will remember reading my blog post on the Jacob Hunter Trust in January 2021. In it, Richard outlines the purpose and the importance of keeping the Trust alive for future generations. Here is an excerpt from my January 2021 blog post:

The Jacob Hunter Trust was established in October 1991 in order to restore and maintain the Hunter family cemeteries and to collate and share genealogy information of Major Jacob Hunter (ca 1720). The descendants of Jacob (a Revolutionary War soldier) and his wife, Mary “Polly” Dancer Hunter Lee are prodigious and all can trace their ancestry back to their founding forefather William Hunter. William Hunter, (Jacob’s grandfather) was thought to have been a weaver from Alnwick, Northumberland in the northeast of England. He immigrated to Nansemond County, Virginia in the latter part of the 1600s. (Now North Carolina).

I know that with the growing number of keen Hunters on our Genealogy Facebook page, that there is great interest in finding sources that link our loved ones to Clan Hunter. Perhaps the Jacob Hunter Trust can help you. This year’s newsletter includes research about the Scottish influence on Western civilization which highlights famous Scottish individuals who have pioneerd education, medicine and more. Read about the historical differences between the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland and the myth surrounding the clan tartans. References to reading material on these subjects is also given.
